Directory Overview

The DIRECTORY page is where you can view all team members, their roles, and their assignments in a particular business or project. You can add and remove members and modify their roles from here.

[edit] What is a Member

A team member, or member, is someone who has been invited to access a business or project. Once invited, a member is given certain defined permissions. For example, a member may be allowed to create and assign new tasks, add new wiki pages and so forth, or he or she can be restricted to view-only mode. All members show up in the business's or project's directory and, for projects, on their dashboard. This makes it easy to see who is working on this project and their on-line status. (Note, Project.net offers advanced capabilities that remove some of these restrictions.)

[edit] What is a Role

What a member can "do" within a business or project is defined by his or her role. Every member of a project has a set of permissions and capabilities based on the role of the member. Depending upon the permissions granted under a role, a user may be restricted from accessing certain areas of a project, such as a specific portion of a project's document vault. Roles can also grant or restrict editing capabilities for things like a project's work plan.

Roles can also be used to easily distribute information. Project team members can send an email message to everyone with a specific role from within a project's directory. Project.net notification messages can be designated to go to every project member with a named role. Workflow notifications can be delivered based upon a defined role.

A Space administrator can add any number of participants to a Project or Business through the Directory module. While adding a member the role can be defined for the member. There are three types of roles in Project.net

  • Team Member
  • Space Administrator
  • Power User

By default, a member will be given the role of a Team member. You can change the role of an invited member to Space administrator or as a Power User.
