Discussion Groups
Discussion Groups

The discussions module provides threaded discussion groups within a business or project workspace. These discussions are secured to the participants of the relevant workspace. A discussion with this feature allows more organization and knowledge capture.

In Project.net you have the ability to create different discussion groups within a business or project. This feature helps improve team collaboration. Since discussions that take place via email are often lost or deleted over time, Discussion Groups acts like a record for future reference. Team members can discuss on various topics by creating different discussions and these discussions are secured to the members of the relevant workspace. The discussion module lists the discussion groups available in the workspace with following information

  • Group names
  • Total number of posts
  • Total number of unread posts
  • Group description.

In this module members can create, edit and delete group. Also they have the ability to view property of discussion group

[edit] To Create a Discussion Group

1. Go to the BUSINESS or PROJECT tab.

2. Select a BUSINESS or PROJECT from the list.

3. In the selected Dashboard page, click on the [Discussions] option from the top menu bar. The DISCUSSIONS page is now open with the list of Discussion groups already created.

4. In the DISCUSSION GROUP listing page, click on the [New Group] option under Toolbox. The CREATE NEW DISCUSSION page is now open.

5. Enter the fields on

  • Group name - Name of the Discussion Group
  • Group Description - Description of the Discussion Group
  • Group Charter - The group charter for the discussion

6. Click on [Submit].

The Discussion Group is now created and listed in the DISCUSSION GROUP LISTING page.

[edit] To Edit a Discussion Group

1. Go to the BUSINESS or PROJECT tab.

2. Select a BUSINESS or PROJECT from the list.

3. In the selected Dashboard page, click on the [Discussions] option from the top menu bar. The DISCUSSIONS page is now open with the list of Discussion groups already created.

4. Select the Discussion Group that needs to be edited and click on the [Edit Group] option under Toolbox.

5. Make the required modifications in the MODIFY GROUP page and click on [Submit].

The changes to the Discussion Group are now saved.

[edit] To Delete a Discussion Group

1. Go to the BUSINESS or PROJECT tab.

2. Select a BUSINESS or PROJECT from the list.

3. In the selected Dashboard page, click on the [Discussions] option from the top menu bar. The DISCUSSIONS page is now open with the list of Discussion groups already created.

4. Select the Discussion Group that needs to be removed and click on the [Delete Group] option under Toolbox.

5. In the confirmation popup window on "Delete this Discussion Group", click on [OK].

The selected Discussion Group is now deleted and no more available in the Discussion Grouping List.

[edit] To View Properties of a Discussion Group

1. Go to the BUSINESS or PROJECT tab.

2. Select a BUSINESS or PROJECT from the list.

3. In the selected Dashboard page, click on the [Discussions] option from the top menu bar. The DISCUSSIONS page is now open with the list of Discussion groups already created.

4. Select the Discussion Group the properties of which are to be viewed and click on the [View Properties] option under Toolbox. The DISCUSSION GROUP properties page is now displayed. Click on [Edit] option in this page to open the MODIFY DISCUSSION GROUP page to make changes if any.

[edit] To Search for a Discussion Group

1. Go to the BUSINESS or PROJECT tab.

2. Select a BUSINESS or PROJECT from the list.

3. In the selected Dashboard page, click on the [Discussions] option from the top menu bar. The DISCUSSIONS page is now open with the list of Discussion groups already created.

4. To search for a particular Discussion Group, click on the [Search] option under Toolbox.

5. In the SEARCH page, enter the required fields on search and click on the [Search] button. All the posts related to the Discussion Group based on the search criteria provided are listed.

[edit] To Notify a Discussion Group

1. Go to the BUSINESS or PROJECT tab.

2. Select a BUSINESS or PROJECT from the list.

3. In the selected Dashboard page, click on the [Discussions] option from the top menu bar. The DISCUSSIONS page is now open with the list of Discussion groups already created.

4. Select the Discussion Group that needs to be notified and click on the [NOTIFY] option from the Toolbox.

5. The [New Notification] window is now open, with the following options that needs to be provided to create a notification.

Status
Provide the enabled or disabled status of the Notification.

Name of the Notification
Enter a Name for the notificaiton.

Description
A short description detailing the type of the notification.

Actions to be Notified about
Options in this section will include New Discussion Group, Edit Discussion Group, Delete Discussion Group and Remove Post.

Delivery Method
The method of delivery of the notification is selected from the options that is provided in the drop down.

Delivery Schedule
Options on how often these notifications are to be delivered are defined in this section. This is selected from the drop down options on Immediately, Daily, Weekly and Monthly.

Message
Message that is accompanied with the Notification.

6. Provide all the required entries and click on [SUBMIT] to save the Notification.

[edit] Toolbox

  • Blogit - Selecting this allows the user to create a blog entry on discussion posts.
  • New Group - Selecting this option allows the user to create a new group.
  • Edit Group - Selecting this allows the user to edit details on a discussion group already created.
  • Delete Group - Selecting this option allows the user to delete a post entry.
  • View Properties - Selecting this allows the user to view properties of a discussion group.
  • Search - Selecting this allows the user to search for a specific post in the list of available discussions.
  • Notify - Selecting this option allows the user to be notified of any changes in the Discussion posts.
